Literacy plays a large role in my life. I'm not much of a writer, and never have been, but I've always loved to read lots of books. However, I do believe my writing has improved during this class by learning more about the different types of assignments and the techniques I learned to use in each one. I feel like my writing has become much more focused, compared to what it was at the beginning of the semester. In the past, my writing has always seemed to wander and I have gone into too much detail about minor topics.
My favorite assignment was a tie. I highly enjoyed the group project with the girls because I learned a lot about the topic on Colorado Coalition for the Homeless, and I was also able to get to know my group members much better. The argumentative essay was a definite favorite as well because I was able to argue something I'm interested in while being able to expand on it with facts and subjects I had never known before. My least favorite assignment was the synthesis essay where we compared the Alexie and Walker stories. Ironically, that was my strongest paper throughout the semester! I feel like I need to improve my use of transitions for the future. I think I've done better with them since I've been able to work more with them, but it's still a weakness I'd like to improve. Thanks for an interesting semester in English, Leah! :)
